Mega Prime found for The Riesel Problem
On 8 May 2011 7:29:52 UTC, PrimeGrid’s The Riesel Problem project eliminated k=123547 by finding the Mega prime: 123547*2^3804809-1

The prime is 1,145,367 digits long and enters Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database ranked 28th overall. This is the largest prime found in The Riesel Problem and PrimeGrid's fourth elimination. 60 k's now remain.

The discovery was made by Jakub Łuszczek (..:: Thor ::..) of Poland using an Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.3GHz with 8 GB RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. This computer took just over 4 hours and 35 minutes to complete the primality test using LLR. Jakub is a member of the Polish National Team.

Neues PRPnet Projekt: Mega Prime Search

Quote:
Mega Prime is defined as a prime number with at least one million decimal digits (titanic prime has at least 1000 digits and gigantic prime has at least 10000 digits). As of this post, there are only 39 known Mega Primes recorded at Chris Caldwell's The Prime Pages.

This search will simply focus ONLY on Mega Primes. It is not for the weak of heart. Testing times on a single core of a fast host is about 3 hours. Work will start at n=3322000 for k<100 excluding k=3, 5, 7, 27.

To participate in the search, add the following server/port to your prpclient.ini file (adjust project share accordingly):

server=MEGA:100:1:prpnet.mine.nu:12010

Es gibt einen neuen PRPnet Client 4.3.5:

Quote:
Version 4.3.5: June 2011 - Patch Release
prpserver: Added onekperclient option. This is used with Sierpinski/Riesel server to ensure that each k goes to one and only one client at a time. This should be used when there are many more k values
to be tested than clients.
Fixed a bug with work selection that would prevent the server
from returning work if it exhausted its cursor of 100 records
before finding an appropriate workunit to send.

prpclient: Fixed bug where client would delete genefer checkpoint file
upon restart.
Fixed bug with GFN testing where client would report that it
completed when it hadn't.

PPS (Sieve) Cobblestone Recalibration

PPS (Sieve) will be transitioning from an sr2sieve (original sieve) baseline to a tpsieve (current sieve) baseline. The project will be entering a new phase soon so this is a good time to begin the gradual transition.

This post will be updated shortly with more details.

Due to BOINC's advance into PPSEhigh's current range, port 12007 has been suspended. All work in progress will be allowed to complete. It is unknown at this time if or when something else will be loaded.

WWWW Prime Search development
Every now and then, users submit new prime search ideas for PrimeGrid to investigate. This past spring, a special request came in for PrimeGrid to explore the following prime searches: Wall-Sun-Sun, Wieferich, Wilson or Wolstenholme.

Now that the summer break is over, we are beginning to investigate the logistics of this. Over the summer, Mark began to make updates to PRPNet to incorporate these new search forms. Additionally, he already had code for a couple of the searches and has now combined them into a single client program called wwww.

There are previous and/or ongoing searches for these forms. The effort at PrimeGrid will be at most a collaboration with any previous, current, or future effort. It is not our intention at this time to begin an independent search for any of these forms.

This thread is being opened now for additional software development with high expectations that it will follow the same path as the AP26 Search code development. Through community support and collaboration, the AP26 client software experienced tremendous speed increases including a port to the GPU. We hope to see the same with the wwww code.

Anyone wishing to contribute, please post in this thread or PM Mark (rogue).
