Neurona@Home is a BOINC-based project which main aim is to simulate the behavior of a large assembly of cellular automata neurons connected in a complex network.
Main Facts:
•Human Brain contains more than 10.000 million neurons with an average of 10.000 synaptic connections projecting from each neuron to other neurons.
•Even the mini-brains of some insects are indeed very complex: Honeybee brains contains around 960.000 neurons which enable them with astounding memory and behavior repertoire for their size.
•It is known that the synchronization in the firing of large assemblies of neurons are related to odour discrimination in insects.
•In Humans synchronous oscillations are also present but they are usually related to higher-order functions such as attention, memory and conscious awareness.
•The origin and even the role of these oscillations are still poorly understood.
Model:
•We consider a model in with a set of excitatory and inhibitory nodes can activate or deactivate neighbor nodes according to a set of probabilistic rules. The cellular automata neuron is a very simple artifact with only three states: firing, resting or refractory but we are interest in the features of the brain that emerge as a consequence of its complex network structure.
•To this aim we should consider an artificial brain with 1.000.000 neurons, a number that exceeds the typical size of an insect brain.
•
Our project simulations of the cellular automata brain in a random network should allow us to understand:
•The emergence of brain oscillations as collective firing.
•The effectiveness of artificial neural networks as discriminant devices.
•The role of the network structure of brains in information processing.

Today we start operations with a batch of 1000 WU. We will use this to test the worker and check everything runs smoothly. Volunteers willing to help can ask for an invitation code once they have checked the requirements to participate in the project.
Hatte schon was von 3-6GB RAM/WU gelesen, also Vorsicht!

All tasks of this phase have been processed. I would like to thank you all for your support and understanding, it is great to have a group like you willing to help and to provide all the time good hits and advices.
The project will be closed during August, but in September we will start working with new and more challenging WUs, and a new model is planned for October, once I have analysed the current results obtained.
Neu WU's gibt es also erst wieder ab September.

We are in the process of preparing a new large scale batch of work units of Neurona@Home in order to explore another excitation/inhibition probability ranges in order to better fit the region where the brain activity is produced.
